Chapter 6

Karma and Karlecia were going crazy running all over town making last minute plans for Karl’s funeral arrangements. It wasn’t as if they didn’t already have things planned and paid for, but Karlecia wanted to make sure that he had the perfect casket and she wanted the family spray to be perfect. It was carnations in yellow and white, the same colors of Karl and Susie’s wedding years ago. Karlecia ordered so many flowers that it made no sense. Karma also ordered seventy-four white doves to be released as the casket was being brought out of the church after the funeral services. A white dove for each year that he spent on earth. Karlecia thought it was a bit extreme, but she went with it. She knew that Karl was the only father Karma knew and she didn’t want to crush her hopes.

Karma went out and bought new outfits for Spirit, James, JB, Charity, and Mercedes to wear for her grandfather’s homecoming celebration. She didn’t have to because everyone had their own money, but that was another way for her to show appreciation for them being her support system throughout the whole ordeal.

“Karma can you call the funeral home and tell them that we’ve decided to have the wake and funeral at the same time. I want to get everything over and done at the same time, this past week has been enough for me,” Karlecia told her.

“I understand. I’m ready to lay him to rest so that I can get my head back together.”

Karma made the necessary call to Allen & Associates Mortuary to let Jack know that they’d decided to have both services at the same time.

“Allen & Associates Mortuary, This is Jack, how may I help you?”

“Good afternoon Jack, this is Karma Canty. I’m calling because my aunt and I have decided to have both of my grandfather’s service together,” she told him.

“Okay great, not a problem. Is there anything else that I can help you with today Ms. Canty?” Jack asked.

“No sir that will be all. Thanks again for everything.”

“Oh it is my pleasure, you take care, and we’ll see you in the morning at ten sharp. Oh and just to be sure, we’re picking everyone up from the house off Battleground in Guilford Green Subdivision right?”

“Yes sir everyone will be at my house,” Karma told him.

“Great see you all then,” Jack said disconnecting the call.

Karma took a deep breath and thanked God for giving her peace of mind. She was definitely thankful for having the money from Todd’s estate because otherwise it may have been a struggle to get him buried like they wanted him to be.

“What did he say?” Karlecia asked.

“He said that it would be fine. They’ll be at my house by ten in the morning. Are you and Kenneth spending the night at my house or will y’all just stay at the hotel?”

“Oh no honey we’re fine at the hotel. You know Kenneth is very private, so it’s fine baby. Thank you for extending the offer, but we will be there by nine,” Karlecia told her.
